In this day and age, with so many different chemical-laden products out there, not to mention the high level marketing strategies, it is easy to rely on them for hair growth. Don't get me wrong, some of these products may have great all natural hair stimulating ingredients that indeed helps with hair growth. However, if you soley rely on hair products and not pay attention to what goes in your body, it either will not work or after a while, you will find yourself at a standstill.
As a woman who has had thick natural hair all my life, I can tell you that there has been a difference now having a plant based lifestyle. Not only does it have significant benefits to the hair, but plant based foods are also filled with essential minerals and vitamins that make your skin and nails look radiant and healthy. Now who doesn't want that?! Now, grab your grocery list and write down these 10 plant based foods that will help you grow your hair.
1. Avocados

If you know me well enough, you know that avocado is like my side-kick. In my opinion, avocado goes well with pretty much anything! Avocado is a part of the berry group and is loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids. Some of the most abundant nutrients found in an avocado are:
Folate
Vitamin K
Vitamin C
Vitamin B6 and B5
Vitamin E
Potassium
Believe it or not Avocados have more Potassium than bananas!
2. Sea Moss

Sea moss is an algae-based superfood that also known as Irish Moss (Chondus Crispus if you want to sound fancy) has 92 of the 102 essential minerals our bodies need. You saw that correctly... NINETY TWO! Sea moss is typically made into a gel that allows it to be easily added to food like oatmeals, soups, sauces and smoothies or just as is. 1-2 teaspoons per day is ideal. 5. Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are naturally sweet roots in the morning glory family and comes in a variety of different sizes and colors including orange, white and purple. Do not underestimate sweet potatoes. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre. Now... don't let this be an excuse to stack up on those sweet potato pies. It may just be filled with other ingredients that is not so good for you. There are a lot of simple yet delicious ways that you can enjoy sweet potatoes. Pinterest is loaded with them.
6. Papaya

Not only does Papaya aids in hair growth, but it is also great for acne control, wrinkle reduction dandruff prevention and helps treats Melasma as well as Eczema. Papaya is abundant in Bioflavonoids also known as Vitamin P which helps to prevent the body from harmful and life-threatening diseases.
7. Coconut

I absolutely love the flavor and smell of coconuts. From the oil to the milk and coconut cream. I enjoy making fresh coconut milk and adding it to stews and rice. There are so many different things that you can do with coconuts. Coconut is a great source of healthy fats for healthy and radiant hair. Coconut oil can be used directly on the hair to condition, moisturize, strengthen and repair the hair.
8. Almonds

Not only does almonds promote healthy cells and add shine to dull hair, it also lowers cholesterol, reduces the risk of diabetes and lowers blood pressure just to name a few.
9. Beans and Legumes

Iron deficiency is what can lead to hair loss in women. If you are having issues with hair loss, you may want to up your iron and zinc intake which you will certainty get from eating more legumes beans and lentils.
10. Acai Berry

Acai which is pronounced ah-sigh-ee, is native to Central and South America. They are about the size of grapes and can be used in poweder form or as is. Acai is not only good for your hair but it is also good for your skin, brain and have anti-cancer properties. It is loaded wity antioxidants, Vitamin A, C and E.
11. Flax seeds

What I love about flaxseed is that it is very versatile and can be added to many recipes. One of my favorite ways to have flaxseeds is adding it to my smoothies and oatmeal. And oh! Did you know that flax seeds can be used as an egg replacer? Yes, flaxseeds can also act as a combining agent for baked and fried goods! So don't be stuck on the idea that you will no longer get to enjoy baked goods on a plant based diet. Not to mention the fact that flaxseeds are a natural source of Vitamin E, magnesium, magnese Vitamin B, copper, Omega-3 fatty acids, selenium etc that helps improve the elasticity of the hair as well as stimulates hair growth.
